Battle
of the Champions @ Dreamworld Music
Complex- Friday, November 21
Alright, here's how it works-
Dreamworld has a Battle of the Bands, and the winner of each Battle of
the Bands competes in a Battle of the Champions, and the winner of each
Battle of the Champions competes in the Battle of the Titans (now
that's quite a show).
Every Other Day, a 3-piece teen rock
band, went on first, playing some gloomy rock (there's too much gloomy
rock these days, I tell ya!). They did have skill though- each member
had a solo, giving them a chance to show off their skill. A couple of
their songs were "Worn Out" and "Walk Away."
Farewell to Emily, a 4-piece
growl-band, came next with some hard, heavy, pounding death-metal.
Minority- now they were really
something! These kids from Plano were still in their pre-teens, and
they were rocking out like crazy! They played alternative-punk, and got
up on stage and danced like wild, flailing about! Some of their songs
were "Growing Up," "Transformation," "Can't Forget," "All Alone," and
"Another Bad Day." The front-man had charisma and energy, and the
guitarist had skill.
Nevertheless, a 4-piece from Red Oak,
rocked out... that's about all I can think to say about them.
Scum Scunge, a band of cowboy
metal-heads with professional-level talent, took the stage growling,
roaring, stomping, and kicking ass!
New World Eulogy (formerly Solid World
Fall) played some devilishly hard metal, like "Step Up," and "Prisoner
From Life."
Lastly, Equal by Six played some
intense growl-rock, with gutteral lyrics nobody could understand.
The runner-up was Minority, and the
winner was Equal by Six. Personally, I would have preferred Scum Scunge
to win, or Minority, but oh well.
