Ftworthmusic.com's
Gong Show @
Lincoln Square Coffee Haus- Friday, February 6
The Gong Show is a
monthly event hosted by Ftworthmusic.com at the Lincoln
Square Coffee Haus in Arlington. The floor is open to anyone who wants
to perform-
singing, dancing, acting, comedy- whatever. Quite a few amateur
musicians showed up, with acoustic acts and jams with acoustic,
electric, bongo and back-up vocals. The crowd, mostly
college-aged, but
not all, were either visiting at tables, on computers, or just sitting
back
and enjoying the music.
A pair of gentlemen artists started off the show, one with acoustic,
the
other on electric. They took the time to tell the crowd what each song
was
about- very soft, romantic songs. The guy on electric sang with a very
gentle,
high-pitched voice.
They were followed by another pair of gentlemen artists, both on
acoustic.
There was only one mic, so only one person sang. Most of the music was
about
love, or rather, the loss of it. I love watching the expressions on
each
musicians' face as they strike a chord, conveying emotion with it.
Karen
Naomi went on next, playing acoustic on an electric. She was followed
by
a lone acoustic guitarist named Chris. There was a lot of pain in his
voice,
and he played with intense passion.
The Josh Project was a three-man band with an acoustic guitar, bass,
and
a chelo. The music was very soft, with the guitarist singing with a
very
gentle voice. The bassist both plucked the strings and open-palmed it.
Nick Choate, an acoustic guitarist in overalls and a cowboy hat with a
skull
and crossbones on it sang next with a strong, but beautiful voice. The
next
act was another regular named Kyle on the acoustic. He was also really
talented,
stringing it hot. Matt and Jamie both played acoustic standing up. Then
Karen
and Nick played a couple of songs together.
The manager's daughter surprised everyone by bringing out her upright
bass
to play some blues with Nick. No vocals, just blues. It was a great way
to
end the night.
