Lamar Murphy announces nationwide tour dates Bristol, Tenn., November 10, 2007 – Lamar Murphy, a four-piece experimental rock band, announces the digital release of their first album Catastrophe Naturelle as well as a nationwide tour to promote the upcoming release of their new EP, In Heaven There's The Sound of Harps...(On Earth The Sound of Screams!), and forthcoming second album, THIS WILL SOLVE NOTHING! Upcoming shows on the national tour will include stops in Tulsa, OK (Nov. 15th); Austin, TX; Albuquerque, NM; Los Angeles, CA, Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA, among other cities. The band will play a mix of songs from Catastrophe Naturelle, recorded in late 2005 – and tracks from the new recordings. Musically, Lamar Murphy has been likened to The Impressions, Flaming Lips, the Unicorns, Animal Collective, and Prince. The band's soulful and charming songs have started to gather a cult following among alternative music enthusiasts who gravitate toward the catchy melodies, bouncing bass lines and non-traditional song structures. All of Lamar Murphy’s songs are written, recorded, and produced by Lamar Murphy. Catastrophe Naturelle was produced and recorded by original members Gabe Jones and Joe McEachern in summer 2005 at the Mt. Roger's National Forest outside of Damascus, VA. They turned their RV into a mobile sound lab by rigging it up with batteries to power recording gear and electric amplifiers. The album was finished in the summer of 2006, and the band headed out for a round-up of tour dates between Tennessee and Michigan to promote the record. Catastrophe Naturelle, will be re-released by Cerberus Records in mid-November at the iTunes music store. It is already available at emusic.com and audiolunchbox.com, among other online retailers. By late 2006, Lamar Murphy parked the RV and settled permanently in Bristol, TN. to begin full-time recording of their EP In Heaven There's The Sound of Harps...(On Earth The Sound of Screams!) and forthcoming album, This Will Solve Nothing! Two new members and long-time friends, Josh Izenberg and Tom Beddow, joined to round out the sound and dynamics of the group. The EP will be released in early December 2007 digitally and on limited edition vinyl. Originally from Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, MI, the four members began playing together in 1995. As Lamar Murphy, Gabe Jones (Guitar and Vocals), Josh Izenberg (Bass), Joe McEachern (Drums), and Tom Beddow (percussion, backing vocals), work out of their warehouse turned studio in downtown Bristol, TN. They signed with Cerberus Records, based out of Michigan, in June 2007. Visit Lamar Murphy’s myspace page at www.myspace.com/lamarmurphy for updated tour dates, music and information. |
