The Matthew Show, Texas
Texas is a work of art. Not raging
rock or some political crap- it's got piano and graceful singing. It
starts out with a very graceful piano short, "Theme From Texas," with
birdsong in the background, and is followed up by "Bring Me Safely
Down." The music is very harmonious. It's kind of like poetry
merged with an odd array of instruments- piano, guitar, violin, bass,
tambourine, organ, table, wedding ring, 1995 Ford Econoline van,
Rocktek phase pedal, fretless fender jazz bass, drum programming,
printer, telephone, keyboard, and alto saxophone. I had to go to the
website to find out about this extremely odd band. The matthew show is operated principally by
matthew, who is an odd sort. A musician and songwriter, "but also a bit
of an opinionated bastard." "Office Suite I" is kind of like The
Butthole Surfers' "I don't mind the son" with long, rolling
siliquoys, and "Office Suite II" is this guy going off abouth the 9-5
trap. Not singing, speaking, about innane, unimportant things, like the
rambling inside the head of a madman, or a speech made to a pretend
crowd- just fucking bizarre! "The Loneliest Boy in Toyland" and
"Mountaintop 4th of July" are acoustic songs, and Reprise and Union
Station are just real slow, easy-going songs.
